Each airline has its own regulations covering the amount, size
and weight of luggage that you are permitted to carry on board
their aircraft. This usually comprises one bag of limited dimensions
(Length + Depth + Width) and weight. Some airlines may allow passengers
to carry one additional piece of cabin baggage such as a laptop
bag or handbag, although travellers may find that the budget carriers,
especially, do not allow the second item and all your items must
be packed into one bag.
You should confirm the policy of the airline before flying. Most
airports and airlines have bag 'cages' close to their check-in
desks to place your carry on luggage items into so that its dimensions
can be checked. Make sure that you know what the permitted size
is before turning up at the airport. Having to check in a bag
containing delicate computer equipment is not an attractive prospect.
Neither is having to sort through all your items in the check-in
queue. Pack your carry on luggage well and within your allowance
and you can get your trip off to a good start. Getting it wrong
will turn the start of your journey into a stressful time.
Do remember that airport and airline policies on cabin luggage
may differ. You should work on the lowest baggage allowance permitted
by any airport / airline that your journey will involve.
