Packing

In Cabin

Once you have boarded the plane passengers should locate their seat and get their baggage stored away as quickly as possible to minimise the delays to other people waiting to get down the aisle to their own seats. Standing in and blocking the aisle while you sort through a bag to locate your newspaper or MP3 player will not make you particularly popular.

Make sure that any items you will need during the flight are easily accessible in your bag. Place in-flight necessities near the top or in an 'easy to get to' internal pocket where possible.

Get the things that you will want during the flight (such as a newspaper) out of your bag before take-off and store them in the seat pocket in-front of you. Ideally you shouldn't need to go into your bag at all during the flight, although this is almost an impossibility if you are travelling with children.

Try to store your bag as close to your own seat as possible. This will avoid disrupting other passengers during the lfight and avoid difficultulties getting to your bag once the plane has landed and everyone else is doing the same.

If your bag is large, rigid and difficult to store always be respectful of other people's baggage. You should not crush someone else's cabin bags just so you can squeeze your own into the overhead luggage locker. Find another less crowded locker instead.

If you have a seat by the window or in the middle of a row, where getting out is disruptive to your fellow passengers, avoiding repeated visits to your bags becomes even more important.

Even if your bag is stored under the seat in front of you, in the confined space of an aircraft cabin pulling it out, opening it and rummaging around for items can be disruptive to your fellow passengers. Having your bag underneath the seat in front of you also decreases your legroom and makes the journey less comfortable, especially if you are travelling on an airline with only 28" between seat backs and happen to be taller than the average schoolchild!

And finally....do remember to take your bag and all its contents with you when you leave the aircraft cabin once you have reached your destination.
